Richard Maltby se convirtió en el letrista y director de todos los musicales de David Shire. También hizo las adaptaciones al inglés de “Miss Saigon” y “The Pirate Queen” los musicales de Schönberg y Boublil. Ganó el Tony como director de “Ain’t misbehavin” y el Olivier por su dirección del musical “Fosse” que homenajeaba la figura del director y coreógrafo Bob Fosse.
